Welcome to the Tokyo Jogakkan College (TJKC) English language webpage. We are a small four-year women's college in a rapidly growing area of suburban Tokyo, with a single department of International Liberal Arts. Established in 2002, we are one of the latest additions to a comprehensive educational establishment that was founded in 1888 "to unleash the potential of Japan's women and educate them to interact with women around the world on an equal basis." In the twenty-first century, we aim to provide an education for tomorrow's women leaders, whether Japanese or from abroad.
How small is small? We have a regular academic staff of 28 professors (including 5 from countries other than Japan) and an upper limit on the student body of 480. Our classes are enviably small, with a maximum of 20 students in all but one or two classes of up to 40. The students at TJKC don't need binoculars to see their professors! Our student body includes 22 women who are foreign nationals or who are from international schools in Japan, and our study abroad program is in its fifth year.
This English webpage offers information that should be especially useful for foreign students wishing to attend TJKC as participants in one of our Exchange Programs or as four-year degree seeking students, as well as for Japanese students and others interested in learning more about Tokyo Jogakkan College.
