Of particular interest to foreign students, Tokyo Jogakkan College offers a wide variety of courses, taught in Japanese and English, on Japanese and East Asian languages, cultures, economics and politics.
General Course Offerings
The Course Guide provides English and Japanese explanations of all courses currently being offered at TJKC. Course offerings are subject to change. Questions regarding the most up-to-date list of classes should be addressed to the Education Office: 042-796-1145.
Japan Studies Tutorials
For foreign exchange program students, in addition to the classes introduced in the Course Guide, a special tutorial-based seminar on Japan Studies may be organized in consultation with the coordinator (contact James Roberson: roberson@m.tjk.ac.jp). These tutorials allow students to work closely with two members of the faculty each semester on selected topics. Currently, students meet with each faculty member for one ninety-minute session each week over approximately 5 weeks and then produce a short research paper for each set of tutorials.
A course on "Contemporary Japan," specifically designed for exchange students, is also offered in English each semester
Independent Studies
Independent Studies seminars are offered for degree seeking students, who work in small groups with a particular professor during their junior and senior years, leading to the production of a graduation thesis. Each professor defines a particular theme for his/her Independent Study seminars.Exchange Program students are encouraged to contact individual professors about enrolling in their Independent Study seminars. Exchange students (only), may enroll in more than one seminar during any given semester. A list of current Independent Study seminars offered by TJKC faculty is available toward the end of the Course Guide. |
