Commitment to International Exchange

Golden Pavilion, Kyoto
Lake Chuzenji, Nikko

Guided by our progressive educational vision, TJKC is a strong advocate of the international exchange of ideas, students and educational opportunities. Students participating in international exchange benefit academically, professionally, socially, and personally from their experiences. These exchanges diversify and enrich the academic and campus life of all members of the college community and prepare students for life in the global community. To realize this aim, TJKC has formal exchange and study abroad agreements with a number of universities and colleges in North America and Europe, and is exploring possibilities in the ethnic Korean area of China.

Student Exchange Programs

For international students studying with us, TJKC offers a variety of content courses in English and Japanese, as well as Japanese language courses for non-Japanese speakers (for details, see Curriculum). To further introduce Japanese culture, TJKC offers a variety of special on-campus and off-campus cultural events and fieldtrips. During the 2006-2007 academic year, for example, students went on an overnight trip to Nikko and on shorter day-trips to nearby Kamakura and Yokohama.

Studying with us on formal student exchange enables students to maintain their student status at their home institutions and to transfer credits and grades for comparable courses. Additionally, most regular forms of financial aid and some scholarships, grants, and student loans can be used to pay tuition fees if students make appropriate arrangements with their home institutions. Students on formal exchanges pay tuition to their home institutions while they pay rent, utilities and other fees to TJKC. Of course, the same principle applies to our students when they go to an exchange partner school abroad.

Exchange students interested in studying at TJKC may request application forms for the Student Exchange Program and for JASSO scholarships (see Financial Aid) from the Office for International Exchange (global@m.tjk.ac.jp).

Students interested in more information regarding TJKC's exchange partner schools should contact the Office for International Exchange (global@m.tjk.ac.jp) and visit the Homepages listed below.

Short Term Language Training Program

In addition to our International Exchange Program, Tokyo Jogakkan College has two English language study abroad programs for TJKC students. These are offered during winter and spring vacation periods. Students may study for one month or more at the International Institute in Washington, D.C., or at the American College in Dublin, Ireland. Home stays, along with English language classes, are offered in Dublin and in Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. has been the most popular program with students returning each holiday. For more information, please contact the Office for International Exchange (global@m.tjk.ac.jp).
